The Race
I woke up bright and early to get out and run. Since the race started at 0730 and I had to figure out how to get there and get there early enough to pick up my packet and sign in, that meant leaving the house around 0515. I wanted to be able to get up and move around a bit and not just roll out of bed and into the car.
The alarm was set for 0430.
Luckily, my internal alarm woke me at 0155 and I got to watch the clock go from 0159 to 0300. Hooray daylight savings magic! I dozed until 0415 and then got up. I fiddled on the internet and had some steel cut outs with apples, banana, peanut and almond butter and cinnamon along with some water. Then it was time to go.
Sadly, I did not think that the green I had would be warm enough to wear, so I skipped it and went with pink. Oh well. Then it turned out that it WAS warm enough that I probably would have been fine in my green. That was a bummer.
Once I got there and signed in, I had to wait. I was there alone and did not have anyone to talk to, so I just made friends. One of the ladies was waiting on her friend who was running late, and the other, Celeste, ended up starting with me, but she left me behind because she was faster. She did cheer me across the finish line, though! :-)

The start of the race was downhill, but I ran slow because I was afraid I would get tired. Turns out, I probably should have gunned down most of the hills. There were a lot of hills on this course and it seemed like I was always going uphill! But I wasn't... until the end. Holy cow, that start was a nice one, but the same hill was the finish! It was brutal. I made it though!!!

I came in 36th out of 39, so not last! I ran it in 41:23, which was just shy of my under 40 goal, at a 13:21 pace! I also came in first (and only) in my age group! Hooray! Haha! It was super fun and I can't wait to do it again! So much so that I signed up for one in a month, Hello Cupcake! 5k and Celeste is doing that one, too!
